Plan de Dieu
This AOC encompasses wines from 95 villages in the Ardèche, Drôme, Gard, and Vaucluse departments. The fight for recognition began in 1942, with Gard wine unions seeking legal recognition of their wines’ quality, drafting strict standards. The process took years, but a 1951 decree allowed villages to add their names to “AOC Côtes-du-Rhône” if conditions were met. Since 1966, 18 names have been included, from four communes in Gard, Drôme, and seven towns in Vaucluse. Each is associated with a specific terroir and duly verified.

Domaine du Bois des Dames
Established in 1957 on a former nuns’ convent in Gigondas, Domaine du Bois des Dames cultivates the terroirs of Plan de Dieu, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and Gigondas. For 20 years, Gabriel Meffre built up a 100 hectare vineyard, but today, the estate is run by his son, Hugues, and daughter Aurélie.
